I went to see John Lee Hooker at the Sweetwater back in the 80's... Had some friends open for him earlier that week down the road. Sweetwater was packed, so I was standing in the hallway behind the stage. As Hooker was taking the stage I asked how we was treated down south, he smiled and had his roadie set up a chair in the 2nd row.

Santana was sitting in and the Newcastle started talking..... "Grateful Dead, Grateful Dead". Hooker when into DireWolf....... then I shut up for the rest of the evening.

I sobered up because I had to drive back to the eastbay. As I headed out of town there was some chick walking and I ask if she needed a ride. Some cop pulled me over for harassing a juvenile at 2:30 am. I had a $60.00 parking ticket, so I spent the night in the MCCC's glass room.

My Rambler stayed clean and I was on my way home the next morning with the Vibratone full blast.

Man, well, I hope the evening didn't seem like a total waste. I've never actually been to the Sweetwater, but I am way too familiar with that Newcastle... ;)

funny part about it is... Santana is a good friend of Roger Cultee's Mother. I used to roadcrew for REZ back in the 70/80's. I was the token Whiteboy for a American Indian Blues Band. Ever been the only White Guy at an Indian Rodeo ?..... lots of knifes in the dirt of this dude.
